MESSAGE ON THE 5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER (YR A)

Friday 5th May 2023

My dear people,

The month of May, which started on Monday, is a month particularly dedicated to our Blessed Mother. I thus encourage you to start particular devotions to Our Lady in your homes. Examples of such devotions include lighting a candle in front of the statue of Our Lady, praying the rosary as a family, or at least, a decade daily. Visits to our church for a decade of the rosary while standing or kneeling in front of the statue of Our Lady as a family is also an option. Meditating on the fidelity and discipleship of our Lady daily is another. I am pleased to advise that the relic of Our Lady of Tears, which was here last year, will be in the parish again next weekend –  13th and 14th May.

Last Saturday was the Feast Day of St Catherine of Siena, our Patron Saint. We had a beautiful celebration of Vespers led by Fr Joel after a time of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. I thank everyone one who joined us for the prayers and also for the refreshments which followed. I look forward to the dinner tomorrow evening and am excited to catch up with everyone who has been able to secure a spot. Another a wonderful way to celebrate our fellowship as parishioners of this awesome parish.

Many of you have asked about the next parish pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I am pleased to announce that a pilgrimage to the Holy Land is being organised for our parish next year. It will leave on Monday 20th May 2024 and be back around 2nd June 2024. I am giving these dates early so that you can plan your holidays for next year and start saving, as will I. I will be able to provide some of the costings next week.

The 9th May is the Feast Day of St George Preca. This year, the feast is on Tuesday. A Mass to celebrate St George Preca and pray for his intercession will be offered at 12pm on Tuesday 9th May 2023 in our church where the community of St George Preca Catholic Primary School will be present. Everyone is welcome. Let us pray particularly on Tuesday for the whole community of St George Preca Catholic Primary School that the Lord will inspire them to be disciples of his like their patron saint was.

We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
