As Catholics, our behaviour and life choices pivot around our faith. Yet, when attending Sunday Mass, at times as we listen to passages from the Bible of events that happened so long ago, we might wonder – how is this relevant to us? How do incorporate the teachings of Jesus into the everyday? Why is it important to reflect on the readings we hear each week, not simply listen to them, and then separate the message from the rest of our lives.
Because the Scripture is the living Word, and no matter how long it has been since the events in the Bible, there will be a message for us on how to deal with what we are going through today.
Each week, we will look at ways in which we can apply the Sunday Gospel into our lives. You are invited to stop for a few minutes, leave the busyness of the day, any plans of the future, clear your mind and allow yourself this time to spend reflecting on the Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind what you need to hear right now.
The following reflection is just one aspect of what we have heard in the Sunday Gospel – there might be much more that the Holy Spirit wants to convey to you in particular. Be open and willing to listen.
