MESSAGE ON THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD (YR A)

Friday 4th August 2023

My dear people,

The long-awaited night of Ablaze Youth Group fundraiser is just 24 hours away. This fund raiser is to help with their ongoing activities and I hope this date has been locked in all your diaries. It will be a fun night of trivia and will provide an opportunity for the parish to come together for some fellowship.

Likewise, the “Family Day” is almost upon us, happening on Sunday, 6th August. It will start with the 10:30am Mass followed by lunch at the CRC Hall. The day will conclude at 2:30pm. Please bring a plate to share. The day will be filled with lots of fun, games, activities and talks for families and children. Please RSVP to the following number 0404380305.

I am pleased to announce we are bringing back the collection as well as the offertory procession at all Masses starting tomorrow.  If you would like to help with these, kindly see me before Mass.

As previously mentioned, we will be organising a parish mission to be held here from 28th to 30th August. The archdiocese has invited Mr John Pridmore to lead the missions in five parishes of the archdiocese and we are one of them. The title of the mission is “Gangland to Promised Land – Melbourne Tour.” Please refer to the flyer in the bulletin as well as in the gathering space for more information. The Parish Mission will be run from 7:30pm until 8:30pm. John will also be here to talk to us at the Masses of 26th and 27th August.

I invite you to keep all the youth who have travelled to Lison, Portugal for World Youth Day (WYD) in your prayers. According to the official website of WYD, 313,000 pilgrims have registered to attend, including almost 600 pilgrims from our Archdiocese of Melbourne. Let us pray that the encounter with Our Lord and the experience of the joy of some many young people will inspire all pilgrims to give themselves entirely to Jesus Christ, whatever the vocation they discover to be theirs.

A reminder that today is the first of Friday the month and tomorrow is the first Saturday. As such, the first Friday Devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will take place today starting with Mass at 7pm followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Confession, Devotion Prayers and Benediction. Devotions to the Immaculate Heart of Mary will happen tomorrow at 3:30pm in the meeting rooms.

Today, 4th August is the feast of St John Vianney, patron saint of Parish Priests. On this wonderful day, I invite you to continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. I also invite you to pray for my holiness, the holiness of all the priests whom you know, those who are serving you at the moment and those who have done so in the past. St John Vianney was a wonderful model for Parish Priests showing remarkable zeal for the people who were in his care. He totally gave himself to the tasks he believed Our Lord was calling him to and for that he is an example of holiness to everyone. We continue to pray for the repose of the souls of our pastors who have died.

We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
