Message on Holy Trinity Sunday 2023

Friday 2nd June 2023

My dear people,

Following the very sad news received on 27th March that Fr John Tollan, our parish’s first Parish Priest, died, we will be celebrating a Memorial Mass for the repose of his soul at 7pm on Friday 23rd June 2023 here at the church. Bishop Martin Ashe, Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne, will be the Principal Celebrant. Mass will be followed by a reception at the CRC Cafeteria where we will have an opportunity to remember Fr John. Please indicate on the sheet in the gathering space whether you will be attending the Memorial Mass for our planning purposes.

A reminder that we are organising a team of parishioners to help with the St Vinnies soup van. This is being started with the view to doing some outreach from our parish. This would also be a good way to bring parishioners together as we help with the preparation and distribution of food to those in need. There are details in the bulletin. I warmly invite you to consider helping with this important ministry.

On Sunday 11th June, the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. This year, in our parish, we will celebrate Corpus Christi with two events. The first is 24 hours of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, to start immediately after the 9:30am Mass on Saturday 10th June and concluding at 8am on Sunday 11th June.  You are invited to roster yourself to spend some time with our Lord during the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The second event is a Eucharistic Procession to follow immediately after the 12pm Mass. The road taken for the procession will be College Street, The Parade, Lake Street, Caroline Springs Boulevard, and coming back via College Street.

It was wonderful to see our young parishioners receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. Last Sunday, during Masses at 2:30pm and 4:30pm, our younger parishioners from St George Preca Catholic Primary School were confirmed by Bishop Martin Ashe, the Auxiliary Bishop for the Western Region. We will welcome Bishop Ashe again this Sunday when, during Mass at 3pm, he will confirm our young parishioners from Christ the Priest Catholic Primary School. We continue to pray for all these younger parishioners of ours. We also thank Bishop Ashe for his generosity in confirming our parishioners.

I would like to thank all our volunteers who attended the Safeguarding Workshop on Saturday 20th May. I must confess that these workshops are events that I tend to dread but I must say it was wonderful to join our volunteers and hear from Rosemary Teed, the Safeguarding Officer, Western Region. Those volunteers who could not attend the workshop on 20th May can attend the one on 29th July. Please contact the parish office for more information.

This morning, I had the privilege and blessing of offering Mass at Christ the Priest to celebrate their Feast Day. The feast of Christ the Priest is on the Thursday after Pentecost but we celebrated it today. Let us thank God for the wonderful community of Christ the Priest and continue to pray for every member of that community, that the Lord will bless all their endeavours.

We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
