MESSAGE ON THE 2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER (YR A)

Friday 14th April 2023

My dear people,

Happy Easter again on this 6th day of the Easter Octave. The Celebration of Easter in our parish has truly been a wonderful event! Right from Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:30 pm on 6th April until the 12pm Mass on Easter Sunday, I have felt immensely encouraged by the number of people who came to the Masses and liturgies. It is obvious to me that we have had record crowds this year. Again, I would like to particularly congratulate our catechumens and candidates who completed their initiation into the Catholic Church in our parish at the Easter Vigil this year.

The increased crowd this year has motivated me to work even harder in terms of missionary renewal in order to set alight a fire of discipleship in everyone in our parish. In order to achieve this momentous task, I will certainly need your help. I will provide more details of the help I will require from you in due course. Stay tuned!

29th April is the Feast Day of St Catherine of Siena, our Patron Saint. This means that it is the Feast Day of our parish. I have asked the Social Committee to organise a dinner for us to celebrate our parish Feast Day together and this will take place on 6th May. Unfortunately, the cafeteria is not available on 29th April. I take this opportunity to strongly encourage you to come to the dinner to celebrate our patronal Feast Day. There is a signup sheet in the gathering space for you to indicate your intention to attend. It will be a spit roast for the dinner and the ticket prices are $20 for adults and $15 for children.

Our parish will run its eighth session of Alpha starting on 26th April this year. I highly urge you to think about attending Alpha this year. We all have gone through times in our lives when we have questioned the very meaning of life. Perhaps you are going through this right now. Perhaps your daughter or son, brother or sister, or colleague is going through this at the moment. Alpha is the best way to come to reflect on the deeper meaning of life. May I ask you to consider attending and encouraging them to attend Alpha? You and they will certainly benefit from it!

We continue turning to our patron saint and we ask for her intercession.

St Catherine of Siena, Pray for us.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Richard Rosse PP
